5" Freestyle — Chase-Tuned Build
Overview
Chase platform
This 5-inch quad was built as a dedicated chase platform for close-proximity flying and race-event filming. Priorities: smooth control, vibration discipline and mechanical durability — not maximum top speed.
The build relies heavily on custom 3D-printed parts to replace temporary solutions like zip-ties and tape, improving repeatability, serviceability and crash resilience.
Validated in real-world chase scenarios where stable video and predictable throttle response mattered most.
Design decisions
- Mark5 true-X geometry: neutral response for chase lines.
- Soft-mounted stack: lower gyro noise, consistent tuning.
- Analogue RF chain: stable feed in dust and foliage.
- Printed protection: rigid mounts instead of tape/zip-ties.
Electronics & RF
